A solar water heating system includes a storage tank and solar collectors. One type has circulating pumps and controls while the other type has none. In two tank systems, the solar water heater preheats water before it enters the conventional water heater. In one tank systems, the back up heater is combined with the solar storage in a single tank.

Stop using electricity more than you have to. Replace all your energy-sucking lights with compact fluorescent lights (CFLs). You’ll probably see a remarkable change in your electric bill. An energy efficient light bulb like the CFL gives the same amount of visible light as an incandescent lamp.

CFLs use less power and have a longer rated life. And although CFLs cost more than incandescent bulbs, these energy efficient lights will save you over $30 throughout its lifetime. Their average life span is between 8 to 15 times that of incandescent lights. They can last between 6000 to 15000 hours while incandescent lamps last from 750 to 1000 hours only.
