Early Start

My sister and I now live back in our home after our mother died. We certainly did not want to sell the same because we have a lot of memories here, and we want to preserve everything from our childhood as much as we can. Both my sister and I agreed to move back in instead of having to rent houses and live by ourselves.

The first thing I wanted to do was to rehabilitate the backyard. We had a lot of great memories in this area, and I want the same to look just how it did in the past. I ordered an aluminum frame greenhouse and I am planning to start going back to gardening. This was very therapeutic after all, and having to live in an apartment I had no way of doing this for quite a while. Hopefully things will all work out in time when we have fully fixed the house.

Throw It In

Given the efforts and campaigns in reducing waste materials being brought to landfills, many individuals have taken on their part to ensure their household footprints are minimized. Each one of us must be responsible for taking care of the environment, and sometimes we fail to realize that our actions greatly affect the surroundings. These days, households now reuse their kitchen scraps into fertilizers for their backyard gardens.

Those who would make use of kitchen waste into compost can opt to have kitchen composting accessories around. This way, they can easily throw their kitchen waste in containers and transport the same from the kitchen to the backyard. This is perfect for households to have an easier time in infusing environmental consciousness in their day to day lives.

Pursuing a Hobby

Since I have sensitive plants which I need to protect from the rain and other elements which can damage them, I decided to make a hoop greenhouse for my backyard. I have read and gotten advice from my other friends who have been successfully keeping their own gardens longer than I did, and have recommended this project. I immediately did my research by logging on to the internet.

I was quite shocked that there were thousands upon thousands of ready available information which I can make use of. There are even step by step guides on how to go about the project in no time. I listed down the things I needed and ordered everything on the internet as well. Hopefully as soon as the materials come in my door, I would be able to successfully execute the project successfully.

Sad No More

My wife and I are now living in the house without any of our children. Our eldest graduated from college last year and our youngest just entered college two years ago. At first we were experiencing the empty nest syndrome and it was really such a sad transition. But now we are slowly adjusting and we have lots of hobbies that takes our attention.

Now we have a lean to greenhouse in our garden and it produces our vegetables. Sometimes even our neighbors buy form our produce and we are very happy that they are happy with its quality. We are now working full time on our greenhouse and that’s why we decided to place greenhouse benches already. It’s a place where we can sit and relax after a busy day of planting and maintaining our crops. Now, we are not sad anymore and we can cope with our children’s absence.

The Root Cause

When we have plants in the backyard, we would need to monitor the growth and maintenance of all foliage. Plants get their nutrition from the soil so it is important to have a fully nourished soil in order to enjoy great crops and flowering plants. Poor soil will result in wilting and eventual death of plants. It is for this reason why most people would need to ensure that all the nutrients needed by the plants in their garden are in place.

A plant’s roots is the way by which it is able to get it’s nutrients from the soil. Gardeners would need to invest in good quality healthy soil fertilizer in order to ensure the continuous growth of their plants. These things would help gardeners maintain magnificent looking gardens year round. Gardens rely on quality soil for a wonderful looking garden.

Equivalent to Sunlight

Growing your own indoor garden can be a challenging feat. One must be able to grow their plants without having to depend on natural sunlight. For this, they would need some indoor plant growth lighting which will work as an equivalent to sunlight. There are a variety of premium lighting systems available in the market. Most of those who are starting on this project would often be quite confused. They would not know exactly what to look for when purchasing this essential piece of equipment.

When purchasing indoor garden systems, it is important to find out first about the plants you intend to grow. This way, you would know exactly what you would need to purchase. Different plants would need different levels of lighting. It is best to understand these things in order to make a sound purchase decision. Ensuring that each component of the indoor garden you are setting up is fit right to the plants you would want to plant. This way, you would not waste a lot of resources and effort when the equipment itself fails to do its purpose.

School Work

As a science teacher, I would want my students to understand the science of gardening. This way, they would be able to comprehend not only the process of growth of living things, but to also gain better appreciation about how the produce they would easily take from grocery aisles would take labor and effort. Getting them to appreciate the hard work of gardening is a way for me to instill in them proper values at the same time. I have then decided to get them into planting various crops for the entire semester.

They are free to do whatever they wish and plant what they want, and would be graded as to the turnout and production of the particular crop they have chosen. They may only make use of natural fertilizers and organic soil additives to better appreciate the process. It was quite a learning experience for them to understand how painstakingly difficult it is to go about farming. I consider the project a success as I have instilled in them learning and values along the way.

How LED Lights Work

LED as a light source came into the picture fairly recently. They are small in size and yet we see them almost everywhere. They are used in applications as diverse as in aviation or automotive lighting, in remote control units, Christmas lights and in LED plant lights. When you turn off the major lights at night and all that is left are pilot lights, they look like a string of Christmas lights glowing in the dark from various appliances. I for one don’t bother to turn them off anymore, knowing that they do not consume that much energy.

It does make you wonder how these tiny light emitting objects can produce such bright lights. Without getting too technical, it is the result of the interaction between electrons and holes in a semi conductor that has the interesting side effect of generating light. We don’t have to know how it works; we just need to realize that the process results in advantages over the conventional incandescent lamp. Because there is no filament that will burn out, they last longer. Their size is also an advantage; they are able to fit easily in modern mini devices.

Experienced Gardener

I have been growing produce for a number of years now. I am not that much of an expert, but I have to say that I know quite a few things that have helped me sustain some wonderful produce year round for my family. This was based on purely research as well as trial and error. My love for gardening grew because I have grown up having a mother who enjoyed the same thing. When we moved to a new home with an empty backyard, I definitely went on and started growing my own garden.

I have worked with a number of plants and produce, as well as materials that would help me maintain a wonderful garden. But no matter what, I would never compromise when it comes to fertilizers. I would always go for the organic type. There are a number of organic fertilizer types available in the market, from the usual manure to cottonseed meal and fish emulsion. It actually is just a matter of preference, as I use a few varieties in my own backyard depending on the needs of my plants. This has helped me to finally realize my dream of growing my own garden.

The Road to a Better Diet

For years, I have an on-going battle with my weight. I have tried everything from pills, exercise and crash diets. I always lose and the frustration got bigger and bigger. I was about to give up when a friend suggested to change my diet entirely.

Apparently, crash diets weren’t really effective. They would just make you bigger in the end. She suggested that I start going on an organic diet. She even suggested that I start organic growing and make my own vegetable garden. I started it right away and even though the results weren’t that fast, it did work and the result stayed longer than before.
