As an environment advocate, I need to make sure that I walk the talk. There are those who tend to be very hypocritical when it comes to their beliefs, and we find them swaying the very values which they swear by. This is the reason why individuals must make sure that they are able to be good role models in the long run. I am one of those who make it a point that I follow through the words that I preach.
In my home, I have a lot of ways by which I can contribute to the betterment of the environment. In my backyard alone, I make use of kitchen scraps in order to fertilize my produce which I grow for my own consumption. I even make use of recycled compost bins which ensures that I get to recycle waste materials which tend to end up in landfills. A little goes a long way, and simple things like that can make a huge benefit when everyone only acts upon it altogether.
After attending a talk which focuses on the effects of household footprint in the home, I realized I have done a few things which are not entirely in favor of the environment. There are actions which a person can be unaware of which may contribute to further destruction of our environment. This talk has been an eye-opener for me; it has taught me to be more pro-active in doing my share.
This is why I opted to make use of a green bin composter in my home. This way, I can minimize the waste items I produce and throw off to the waste bin instead. I am now making good use of the materials I can convert into compost and make better use of the same in my garden. Who would have thought this small thing can make a huge difference?
Since my husband knew how much I wanted to have my own garden, he had told me that his Christmas gift for the year would be a brand new backyard where I can enjoy countless days working on. Since he is often out on various business trips, I would usually be lefty by myself at home with the kids. As a full time mother, I would need to be able to find ways on how to keep myself entertained.
He immediately commissioned a landscaping architect and a contractor to proceed with the job at hand. We were particular about the plants and flowering trees which would be grown in our backyard, so I was tasked to approve every element which would be included in my new garden. My husband also invested in gardening supplies and equipment, including a rolling composter so I will have all the tools I need when the job is through. I am definitely one excited homeowner!
Whenever we drink tea, we always get a lot of benefits and nutrients from it. They contain antioxidants and even slimming properties, they aid us in our digestion and some keep us active and awake with varieties containing caffeine. The same goes for our plants. Compost tea comes from the extract of the compost we prepare from a spinning composter. They have a lot of added benefits which plants can take advantage of, other than the compost itself.
When we use a spinning composter, they often have a base which collects compost tea. This allows the gardener to increase beneficial organisms vital for overall health of plants. They can also be sprayed in order to supress foliar diseases. These fluids provide numerous advantages for our garden. This way, both humans and their plants can enjoy the benefits from the tea they drink. Soil health is always a must for a great looking garden at all times.
When you hear the word worms, chances are you would find it to nasty and disgusting. Well not for me, I love my worms and in fact I have them as pets at home! They provide a whole lot of benefits for me and not the pests that everyone hates. This is because I am an organic gardener, and I produce a whole out of produce which I sell in my community who are advocates of organic food.
The worms do a lot of the work to transform my waste materials into fertilizer that I use for my produce. My tray composter is a multi-tray system that allows me to meet my composting needs for my garden. That way I not only get to feed my family some healthy food, I can also offer healthy produce to my community and earn from it. Not bad from something that are considered pests right? Working with worms is something I will never quit doing!
As homeowners, we would usually need to find that place to hide out those garbage bins that we have. Aside from the fact that they can be very unsightly, they also emit those odors that are truly a headache. This is a major no-no especially when you have guests over, as you might have them running out the door with a messy and poorly-maintained home. But nowadays, you need not hide them out from the world when you have a ceramic compost bin in your home.
These bins work great to not only ensure that your home reeks of bad odor, but it is also pretty decorative and will work great on any part of your house. Now you need not hide them, and they can be in sight for all the guests to see. Trash need not be something that is hated and hidden, when you have these bins that will beautify your home. How’s that for a fancy bin?
Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment. The simplest way of composting is to pile up waste outdoors and wait for a year or more. There are different ways of speeding up the composting process which all starts with the use of proper composting equipment. A spin composter with base is a type of turning compost bin designed as a large rotating unit that can be spun to turn the composting material within.
This type of turning compost bin will greatly reduce the time that is needed to compost materials, although they often require more effort to turn the material frequently. A spin composter with base will let you steer those table scraps and garden waste away from the local landfill and into the feeding of microorganisms in the garden. It is designed with ridges to help break up big clumps and is built to resist pesky rodents. Most spin composters are made from 100% recycled material which makes it eco-friendly as well.
One of the keys to composting is aeration. The bacteria need oxygen to carry out the aerobic respiration that creates rich compost. One way to aerate your compost is with a pitchfork or a compost turning tool. If you keep your compost in a tumbler, however, all you have to do is turn the container. Since most compost barrels can be expensive, you may be interested in building your own for much less money and an hour of your time. But, I have found, that though many want to make their own compost, a lot of them do not even know which ones you should use to create a rich compost that can give you the many benefits of making your own. Here is a list of things you may use and then go ahead and freely compost away. Remember, home composters like tumbler composters are NOT garbage bins.
- table scraps
- fruit and vegetable scraps
- crushed egg shells
- shredded leaves (for faster breakdown)
- thin layers of grass clippings
