Pair Organic Clothes with Organic Cleaners

June 22, 2009

When parents buy organic for their children, they almost always have the health and well being of their child in mind. After all, organic cloth is known to not only be softer and more luxurious, but it’s also less likely to harbor allergens. This type of clothing is particularly well suited to babies, because their skin is more sensitive anyway.

But any health benefits from buying organic baby clothing can be nullified if you don’t use the right kind of laundry detergent. Using harsh soap with chemical additives can cause minor or severe irritation to a baby’s skin, which is why the soap you use is just as important as the type of clothing you purchase. So if you don’t want to nullify all the positive effects of buying organic, make sure that your soap is equally eco-friendly.

Recycled Fashion

One of the most important steps to creating an eco-friendly lifestyle is making it fun for everyone involved. This means it can’t all be about sacrifices and conserving. One of the best ways to demonstrate to people what recycling can do is through recycled purses. These purses are often made from products such as the inner tubes of bicycle tires. They can also be made from the fabric of clothing that has long been discarded or forgotten.

A recycled purse can be elaborate or simple, plain or decorative. But whatever the end result ends up looking like, it’s a great lesson that trash can be tailored into something useful and beautiful. Carrying one of these purses is sure to be its own kind of fashion trend. Not only will the specific styles and patterns be considered trendy, but the overall idea of wearing recycled gear can catch on as its own trend.

Contributing to the Vegan Cause

Veganism can be understood as both a diet and a lifestyle. It is marked by an avoidance of using any clothing, food, or general products made with animals. While vegetarians cut meat out of their diet, vegans take it one step further and avoid animal products such as cheese, milk, or eggs. While the numbers of people who are strictly vegan are relatively low (somewhere around 1% in the United States), there has been a general move towards the increased use of vegan products.

Even people who don’t strictly follow the vegan diet but are concerned with cruelty towards animals are likely to purchase vegan-friendly products. Most commonly, this includes avoiding clothing made with animal products. This means all kinds of leather, sheepskin, and many other items are off limits. Wearing vegan clothing is one way that people can contribute to the vegan lifestyle, even if they can’t (or aren’t willing) to completely adopt a vegan diet.

Purchasing the Safest Diapers Possible

When it comes to diapers, parents often run to the store and purchase the cheapest, quickest, and most convenient option possible. But parents should slow down for these kinds of purchases and make sure that they’re being careful to select something without harmful products or chemicals. One of those persistently harmful chemicals is chlorine.

Many disposable diapers use chlorine to bleach the pulp into its white color. While this might look nice and desirable when you purchase the product, it can create some very toxic and very harmful byproducts. And not surprisingly, the people that are most susceptible to these kinds of products are infants. That’s why so many parents are turning to chlorine free diapers. These are better for their environment, and they’re better for your baby.

Go Green, Save Green

When it comes to the going green movement, the largest misconception is that every change to save our planet will have to be extremely drastic. But that’s just not the case. Living in a green manner, also known as an environmentally-friendly manner, doesn’t mean you have to give up electricity, sell your car, and cut yourself off from grocery grown vegetables. Rather, implement small changes in your life so that your personal footprint is reduced.

These changes are even easier to implement now than a few years back, because there has been a huge increase in the release of green products. From chemical-free cleaning supplies to eco-friendly light bulbs, you can easily make your house more earth friendly and less wasteful. And if you’re interested in slightly more drastic moves, look into adding solar panels or a wind turbine to your house. While the initial installation might cost you a bit, they will help you see a difference in your monthly electric and heating bills, so you stand to make money in the long run.

Tips for cleaning the Bedroom

Author: John
April 16, 2009
Undoubtedly the bedroom receives the least amount of attention when it comes to cleaning. It’s so easy to ignore the dust bunnies along the walls and under the bed, but doing so can cause headaches, allergies and sinus problems.

Cleaning Schedule

I encourage all my seminar attendees to establish a regular maintenance routine just like you are hopefully doing for your car. Your goal is to find ways to reduce your “travel time” keeping up with house work. You will give yourself extra fee time, two to three hours a week, just by following these few simple tricks:

  • Don’t lay it down, put it away. Those sweat pants on the floor are lying right next to the dresser they belong in. So put them there! In the morning when you dress for work, put the hanger on the doorknob if you will be wearing the clothing again. Keep the clothes hamper close to the door. Then get in the habit of undressing in front of the closet door; with the hanger and hamper handy what could be easier?
  • Take it with you: Place any drinking glasses, magazines, mail etc that need to go to the main part of the house next to the door. When you head out for that first cup of coffee take everything with you. Then put it away!
  • Trash day ease: Keep a grocery plastic bag as a liner in one of the wastebaskets in the bedroom section of your home. It’s easy to pick up all the trash in the bedroom area as you head out for the day. Keep spare bags on the bottom of the wastebasket so they are handy and quick to replace.
  • Carpet and upholstery stains:Please refer to our Stain Removal Guide to clean stains off carpet and fabrics. This guide is currently being updated with our new products which are Benya, Terra Plus and CleanEz. Please be patient until we get the new information posted. Hopefully by the end of the week.
  • Keep ahead of the dust bunnies: Deep clean one bedroom every three to four months, depending on the number of bedrooms in your home, to keep ahead of dust and dirt that attracts dust mites. Begin in the closet removing everything on the floor. Use a barely damp cloth to dust the baseboards and the carpet just in front of the boards making sure you reach down into the crevice. Vacuum thoroughly and replace what was on the floor. Then start on the main part of the bedroom with the wall on the left of the room working your way to the right. Pull out all the furniture along that wall and everything from under the bed. Be sure to dust the back of furniture, walls and the frames of the bed. Next strip the bed and vacuum the mattress on both sides. Remove the pillow slips then take the pillows outside and shake them thoroughly. Dust mites love to hide in the mattress and pillows. Leave your pillows outside all day in the spring for a refreshing nights sleep!

Cleaning Wood Furniture:

Prevent your wood furniture from drying and cracking apply our Wood Cleaner and Conditioner three times a year. All your furniture will give you years of wonderful service. Our Wood Cleaner even removes water stain marks.

Closet Clutter: Clean them yearly and take to Goodwill anything you have not worn in the past year or two. Declutter your closet so you have room to hang and put away those things you do use frequently. Musty odors in closets come from a moisture source. Find the source and take care of the problem. If you live in humid areas a dehumidifier will prevent mold spores from growing and allergies from developing. Once mold and mildew settles into carpeting it is difficult to kill.

Jewelry: Put away your small jewelry items. First they won’t get lost or accidetnly be brushed onto the floor and crushed accidentally. Next come cleaning day, they are tucked away making dusting much faster. Finding them is so much easier as well. I won’t mention the number of times a day I go looking for my glasses.

Answers to your questions:

  • The fabric pleated shades on my windows are always dusty and they get these little spots on them. What is a fast easy way to clean them and how do I remove the spots without damaging the fabric? Clean fabric shades quickly with our Dry Sponge.. It is used dry so it will not damage any fabric. Wipe over the shades shifting the sponge as it soils. You can wash these sponges to reuse over and over.

For spots, dampen a Q-Tip with a bit of water. Then dab it into a little bit of liquid dish washing detergent. Now apply to the spot, wait 10 to 15 minutes and rinse with a barely damp cloth.

  • My son is a teenager and his room has that teenage body odor and so do his shoes. What can I do to remove that odor especially his shoes without without damaging them? Smelly tennis shoes and sneakers. Those of us who have raised boys sympathize with you! If you can get him to take his laundry to the laundry room every few days, that will help.First of all, wash his bed blankets and mattress cover pad. Dust then vacuum his room thoroughly going over the carpet slowly and in both directions. Now use our Pure Ayre for Home and spray the curtains, and the carpet even behind the dressers. Spray his pillow and mattress as well. Then spray the room as you leave. That should get rid of the odor. Pure Ayre does not mask odors. It kills them so the odors do not return.

For his shoes makes sure he doesn’t put his socks into his shoes or throw anything on top of them. They need to dry and having them covered in any way, prevents that. Then buy him two sets of shoes. He wears one pair while the other has a day to dry out. Spray them with the Pure Ayre for Home and that will get rid of those shoe odors.

  • What is the best and fastest way to dust my bedrooms? It always seems like it takes me forever.Dusting your Bedroom. First of all make sure everything is picked up and put away. Clutter slows down your speed. Now start at the left of the room. Dust high things first like picture hangings and lampshades. Then dust the lower areas. Work you way around to the right. Most important don’t stop what you are doing to work on another chore. Every time you stop your cleaning it takes time to pick you speed back up again. Keep going. When you finish one room do the next then vacuum the entire area. I think you will be please how much faster you will dust and clean.

Trick: Use an old but clean cotton tube sock over one hand. Dust with your one hand and move objects with the other. You will love how quickly your hands fly through the dusting!

Sun Room Care

Author: John
April 12, 2009

Floor Grout: Most sun room floors contain flooring made from stone floor, which is grouted. Grout must be properly sealed or you will find it difficult to remove stains.

  • Clean them first with our Stain Eraser to remove those stains.
  • Head to a hardware store to purchase a five year grout sealer then to a beauty supply store for a squirt bottle used to apply hair coloring. Snip off just a small section of the tip and fill the bottle with the sealer. Apply one coat of the sealer then let that cure for three to four days. Apply a second coat and wait another four days.
  • Spray a bit of water on the grout. If the water beads on top of the grout, the grout is sealed. If not, then apply a third coat. So be generous with the amount of sealant you use with the first two applications. Apply new grout when you begin to notice that the traffic paths are beginning to soil.

Glass: Ok Houdini, where are you when it comes time to clean the glass in sun rooms? Your magical touch is needed in these rooms. One streak in one pane and it is visible from everywhere in the room.

Remember never clean any window in the direct sunlight. Early morning or late evening is best. Any product will leave streaks in a window if used in direct sunlight. This is where your microfiber products will outshine any other product on the market.

  • First of all grab the durable and dependable Best Home Mop with extension handle that includes our Extension Handle and 14 inch cleaning head. Toss in our Angle Adapter, the Microfiber pads that comes with the Swivel Pad Holder, and our Window Squeegee for the fastest most effective way to clean those windows
    inside and out.
  • Use an old but clean terry hand towel to remove the cobwebs both inside and outside the windows. Drape the towel over the Mary Moppins cleaning head. The round mop head conforms to the curves of the windows and the edge of the mop head is wide enough to clean the edges of the metal bracing as you dust the cobwebs. Then with the towel still draped over the mop head, pull the towel down the center span of those bracings to clean them as well. You will love the convenience and be amazed how quickly that job is finished.
  • Outside windows: Next tackle the outside windows. Never clean a window when the sun shines directly on the window. Doing so only guarantees smeared windows no matter how good your product.
  • Attach the Angle Adapter to the Moppins Handle removing the Grip Tite. Then attach the Microfiber pad holder. Angle the adapter to the correct position to angle over the top of the windows. The microfiber pads come as a pair one washes and the other dries. Dampen the washing pad with water only then thoroughly saturate the window. It will scrub away all the bird residue, dirt etc. Then use the window squeegee to remove the excess water. Finish drying with the microfiber drying pad.
  • The inside job: For the inside windows, use only the microfiber pads. You can use minimal water with them so it won’t drip on the floor. Use the wash pad to clean the windows and the dry pad for, of course, drying them. A microfiber towel attached to the Mary Moppins Mop head will also dry these windows. The angle adapter coupled with the swivel action of the pad holder makes cleaning these windows a breeze. The microfiber pads will work wonders on all your glass windows.
  • Should you find you prefer a window cleaner, purchase a 32 ounce spray bottle at the hardware store. Pour in one-third cup white vinegar and one-fourth cup rubbing alcohol. Fill with distilled water. I guarantee it not to streak and to save you money.

Furniture: Cleaning wrought iron or wicker furniture present problems all their own. Use water on wrought iron and it will eventually rust. Wicker furniture must be damp cleaned to keep the wicker from drying.

  • Wicker: Use a 100% lambswool duster for removing dust and cobwebs on wicker furniture or the soft bristle brushes of a vacuum cleaner. Alternately wipe with one of our Dry Sponges. Wicker furniture must be cleaned regularly with a very damp cloth to prevent it from drying and cracking. Doing so four time a year keeps it in top condition.
  • Wrought Iron: There is a safe product that not only cleans your furniture but will not rust metal. Some folks say our Ion-A-Clean is only water. Well they are correct with one major difference. Our water has been negatively charged. The negatively charged ions encapsulate the soil separating it from the surface, which releases it so dirt and stains wipe away quickly and easily. Read more about our exciting Ion-A-Clean.Ion-A-Clean will not rust metal. Drop a nail in a plain cup of water and drop another in a cup of Ion-A-Clean. Three months later the regular water will be full of rust while our Ion-A-Clean will be crystal clear. It prevents oxidation and rust from forming on all metal parts not exposed regularly to the elements.

When you spray Ion-A-Clean on your metal furniture the dirt releases and drips to the floor. Just think how much time you will save cleaning your furniture.

Glass tables: The base of most glass tables in sun rooms are either wrought iron or wicker. Never spray any kind of glass cleaner directly on these table tops. The cleaner will deteriorate wrought iron and dry wicker. Rather spray a soft cotton cloth with window cleaner then clean the glass. To remove stubborn spots on glass, spray with Ion-A-Clean or plain water, wait 5 minutes to soften the spot then wipe clean.

Metal or ceramic figurines: Caution must be used when dusting and cleaning these items. Do not use microfiber cleaning cloths on either. Over time they will scratch the finish.

A polishing cloth for metal is best for metal figurines. Most jewelry stores carry them. Liquid or solid polishes get into the groves and can be difficult to remove. If a liquid polish is necessary, an old toothbrush comes in handy for removing the polish.

Dust and clean ceramic figurines with a soft cotton cloth dampened lightly with water. Allowing water to set for 30 minutes before use gives the chlorine in the water time to dissipate.

Answers to your questions:

  1. My wrought iron furniture left a rust spot on my tile floor. Is there any way to remove that spot?

First of all, you will want to purchase some sticky backed felt pads at the fabric store. Put one under the foot of each table and chair leg to prevent future rust spots.

Removing rust from tile can be very tricky. Tile is porous so liquid run right through. Get some fresh lemons from the store. Roll them on the counter so they juice easier. Place a heavy duty paper towel down on the spot and squeeze a sizeable amount of juice on the towel. Let that set at least an hour keeping the towel saturated the entire time. Then scrub with a salt and lemon juice paste.

If that doesn’t work then mix a paste of baking soda and lemon juice. Pat on the spot and let it set a couple of hours again keeping the baking soda saturated with lemon juice. Scrub and rinse with hot water. Sometimes rust stains just will not come out of tile floors. If one method lightened the spot keep repeating until the stain has been removed.

Now head to the hardware store for a bottle of 5 year grout sealer and purchase a pointed tip plastic bottle. Fill the bottle with the grout sealer and apply two coats allowing three to four days in between coats. Then spray some water on the grout. If the water beads up, the grout is sealed properly, if not apply a second coat.

  2. The fabric pleated shades in my Sun Room get small dots on them. Do you know what causes it and how to remove it?

The fastest way to dust them is with our Dry Sponge.

  3. All the window cleaners I use streak my windows and they are expensive. Do you have an easier solution?

You bet I do. In a new spray bottle, add one-third cup of white vinegar and one-quarter cup of isopropyl alcohol then fill with distilled water.

Cleaning Wood Furniture: Wood furniture must be deep cleaned and conditioned twice a year to prevent drying. Using a clean, old cotton tube sock, pour on some of our Wood Cleaner and Conditioner. It cleans and conditions the wood with one application. Remove water marks and scratches from dining room tables and chairs by adding a bit of elbow grease. It takes a bit of rubbing but the marks will disappear.

To clean your wood furniture on a weekly basis, simply mix 1 part Wood Care to 5 parts water. It leaves your wood with a healthy sheen and will not damage finishes.

  • If your family uses your dining room table for homework assignments, craft projects or as a gathering place, keep it covered with either a protectant pad or a plastic table cloth. You can cover the plastic table cloth with one made with cloth for a more attractive setting. The plastic table cloth will protect the table from spills and accidents. Fingernail polish does not remove from wood tables.

  • Removing a Coffee Stain: Oh, that spilled coffee used to mean hours of removing the stain. Not any more.Simply mix a 50/50 solution of water to hydrogen peroxide, use a fresh bottle as old peroxide will not work properly, spray on the spot wait 10 to 15 minutes then rinse with 1/4 cup white vinegar per quart of water. Repeat if needed.

If a whole cup of coffee has spilled blot what you can using heavy bath towels. Then treat with water only for the first time or two. Coffee spills for some reason continue to creap up from the carpet backing and the best cleaner in the world will not remove it all. So keep diluting it then finish with the peroxide and water mixture.

  • Dinner by candlelight: Never place a candle on any surface without having a holder under it. Even when they are not lit, candle wax sweats leaving nasty stains in wood or any surface. Those stains cannot be removed.

Resist moving a lit candle. In fact never move a candle until the wax has solidified. Otherwise you will be searching my stain removal guide on tips for removing the wax. It’s best to blow out the candle, let it set about 5 minutes then move it and relight it.

I highly recommend buying soy candles that do not smoke when burning. Look for ones that have natural wicks without lead. Breathing lead from burning candles is not healthy. Soy candles burn three to four times longer than wax candles. Burning smokeless candles saves your hours of labor cleaning soot from walls. Keep the wicks trimmed on candles to reduce the amount of smoke emitted.

NOTE: For removing candle wax please see our Stain Removal Guide

  • Vases: Clean the inside of a vase by filling it about two-thirds full with a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide to water. Then add one teaspoon full of baking soda. Yes do this in the sink in case it bubbles over. Let that set overnight and your vase will be fresh and clean the next morning.

Answers to your questions:

  1. I have small children and when they spill their drinks at the table, it soaks into the cushions leaving a stain. Is there an easy way to remove those stains?

With small children in the home where spills often happen, you might want to invest in a couple of plastic table cloths. Cut one about twice as large as the seat of their chair. Turn the tablecloth fuzzy side up. When a spill happens the fuzzy part catches the spill and the plastic protects the seat. Keep a second plastic cloth to place on the floor of any room so they can play games without the worry of staining the carpet. It also comes in handy for those youngsters who are potty training to place under them when they fall asleep on the couch or floor.

To clean stains turn to our Stain Removal Guide and search for the specific stain.

  2. My Grandmother’s lace tablecloth has yellowed with age. What can I do to safely remove that yellowing?

Fill the sink with cool water adding 2 cups of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Use one-half cup if you are using a 20% peroxide. Soak the lace for an hour, longer if needed, rinse in cool water and air dry. If the 3% peroxide does not work, call some medical supply stores and ask for their 20% peroxide. It’s more expensive but sometimes it takes that extra strength to remove the yellowing although the 3% usually works just fine.

  3. My dog loves to beg food when we eat dinner. My daughter just can’t resist those sad eyes. What can I use to remove the half chewed food from the carpet? I keep getting a rotten odor coming from the one spot.

You must have a dog just like our Pepper. He was a pointer/setter mix. He set his rump on the floor and pointed his nose at the table. You will marvel how easily our Pure Ayre emoves odors. It is so pure you can even spray it in a pet’s mouth to get rid of “doggie breath.” Sprayed on your pet it removes all kinds of odors including skunk!

To remove the food particles head to a pet store for Natures Miracle. Use it first before you treat the spot with any chemical. It is an enzyme product. Enzymes “eat” away the food particles. However any kind of cleaner will kill the enzymes.

Cleaning Your Kitchen

Author: John
April 6, 2009

Mopping a kitchen floor.

Knowing a few speed cleaning tips helps you clobber kitchen problems before they become disasters. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

  • Apply my number one speed cleaning rule: Give your product time to work to all of your areas that may need a little extra cleaning boose like food burned onto the top of your stove. Spray CleanEz on the surface, wait 3 or 4 minutes while you clear the dishes. Then go back and wipe it off. You’ll be amazed how much easier it is to clean stains, dirt, grit and grime just by giving your product time to do its job.

  • Smelly disposals: Rid the disposal of lingering odors by dampening a round toilet bowl brush with TerraPlus then sprinkle a bit of baking soda on the brush. Scrub the inside of the disposal to remove food particles that may be clinging to the sides. Now head to a pet store, marine store or RV store for a powdered enzyme product. Nature’s Miracle is at the pet stores or try our Eco Save. Pour half the recommended amount into both kitchen drains. On the disposal side pour the Eco Save on a brush and wipe around the sides of the disposal. The enzymes “eat” away at any food particles removing the offending odors from the drains. It will keep your entire drain clear except for tree roots. Those enzymes eat away at all the bacteria on their way down the drain keeping them clear. Then toss the toxic drain openers.

Eco Save prevents drains from clogging. Pour it down bathroom sinks and shower or tub drains monthly to prevent the clogs. The enzymes are healthy for municipal systems, septic systems and holding tanks.

Removing Grout Stains: Stains in tile grout without a doubt are the toughest area in the kitchen to clean. Grout is porous so liquid cleaners seep right through making it difficult to remove the stain. Prepare yourself for a pleasant surprise when you see how quickly and easily our Stain Eraser removes those stains. It will not take the color out of colored grout like most liquid cleaners.

  • Do not forget to clean the Refrigerator coils: Keep the motor of your refrigerator humming along by cleaning the coils at least twice yearly. A curved brush made for cleaning drains does an excellent job cleaning around the bends of the coils - do be careful not to puncture them. Some refrigerator manufacturers makes getting to the coils impossible. The cheapest way to clean these is to rent an air compressor, around $25, and blow the dust off the coils. Even though I was cleaning what I could reach with the bottle brush, the coils needed added attention. AFter using the air compressor our motor went back to running normally once again saving us a huge $150 to $200 service bill. This added attention to your refrigerator adds years to the motor.

  • Clean and Condition Kitchen cabinets twice a year to prevent cooking oils from penetrating the wood, which will dry and crack the wood. Our one step Wood Cleaner and Conditioner will keep them in top shape if used regularly. Then dilute it 5 parts water to one part Wood Care to use as a regular cabinet cleaner. Discover what it does for your furniture as well. It removes scratch marks on furniture and restores the greying to bathroom cabinets.

  • Establish the good habit of never setting a used cup, dish, plate etc on the kitchen sink. Rinse and place the plate etc in the dishwasher. If your hands are your dishwasher then keep a small spray bottle filled with water and dish soap on the counter. Rinse the plate etc, spray with the detergent water and you are finished in less than a minute. Let them build up and you now have a 30 minute job on your hands.

  • Microwave: Oh, the number of times you heated leftovers in the microwave only to have the food splatter everywhere then resist all your cleaning attempts. Put the food on a regular dinner plate - never use plastic in the microwave. Then place a second plate or bowl over the top. When you heat the food, steam forms inside the plates keeping the food moist and yummy. The top plate prevents food from splattering - remember what I said about prevention and speed cleaning?

    • To clean splattered food, heat a cup of water 3 to 4 minutes on high. The steam loosens the food and it wipes right out. When food burns in the microwave, popcorn is infamous, it unleashes this nasty odor. Spray a little of our Pure Ayre in the microwave. Pure Ayre does not mask odors it eliminates them yet it is so safe you can use it as a breath freshener for your pet!

  • Countertops: When the dishes are cleared after the evening meal, grab a towel and the bottle of CleanEz or Benya and clean one counter top or perhaps the stove or a refrigerator shelf every night. Wipe counter tops with a clean rag. Dish rags contain dirt and grease that leave smears on counter tops. By the end of the week your kitchen sparkles and you have only spent an extra two or three minutes a night.

    • Still having problems with countertops, stoves or refrigerators smearing after you clean them? Use our Benya. It will not streak or smear any surface. It can be used safely and confidently on any surface where water can be used including marble, granite and corian.

Many stains on counter tops can be removed with whitening toothpaste. This is safe for Corian, marble or granite. Corian can also be rubbed gently with our white scrub pad to remove stubborn stains. A paste made from baking soda and hydrogen peroxide also does a good job removing stains

  • Removing Cooking Odors: I can smell it from down the street. If linger cooking odors don’t tickle your fancy, simmer a pan of water for five or six minutes adding a cup of white vinegar to the pan.

The easy way of course is to spray a bit of our Pure Ayre in the room. It does not mask odors it removes them - permanently - and happens to be much faster and easier than boiling vinegar.

  • Stove Hood: If the grease under the hood of your stove has gotten to the point of no return, spray on some foaming tub and tile cleaner. Cover your stove top to keep it protected. When it starts to drip, wipe with a clean but old rag. The faster and easier method is to use our TerraPlus. Foaming shaving cream takes 5 or 6 minutes to work where TerraPlus will remove that buildup in under one minute.

  • Black stoves and refrigerators: Be sure to use a very clean cloth when working on these appliances. The grease and dirt on your cloth will cause them to smear. Our brand new and exclusive glass plus more cleaner Benya removes the smears and smudges left by other cleaners. Spray it on then let it set several minutes. Benya will not streak or smear yet does an incredible job removing grease, dirt and fingerprints. Use one of our Swifter towels to wipe.

Caution: Do not use paper towels to clean these surfaces. Paper is made from trees, naturally. Towels, newspspers etc contain slivers of pulp that will scratch the surface. Our Swifter towels will never scratch and they can be machine washed over and over. Air dry.

  • Fine China: Rinse fine china in a sink of water adding one half cup of borax then a second rinse in plain water. It shines your china for those special dinners.

Green Cleaning a Bathroom

Author: John
April 3, 2009
There are easy, inexpensive Green cleaning solutions for putting a sparkle back in your bathroom. Let’s take a look at the eco-friendly side of bathroom cleaning.
My primary rules of thumb to clean your bathroom

  1. Give your product time to work
  2. Prevention; prevention; prevention!
A few simple changes in the bathroom will save your hours of work each month.
Cleaning soap scum from showers and bathtubs is one of the most difficult problems to solve. Eliminate the problems by switching soap. The animal fat and talc in bar soap causes the buildup. Switch to organic liquid or a glycerin soap to avoid the problem altogether.

  • To remove heavy soap scum buildup, use Terra Plus full strength and apply it with a light cloth. Wait 4 to 5 minutes then scrub gently with Our White Scrubbie Pad dampened with water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with water when you finish. For weekly maintenance, dilute CleanEz one half ounce per quart spray bottle.

  • Squeegee your shower and glass shower doors after showering to avoid water spot damage. Our  quickly and efficiently removes hard water spots from shower doors.
  • When you finish cleaning the shower spray our Advantage onto a cloth and wipe down the showers and glass shower doors. The polymers in Advantage that protect your car from UV ray damage make a surface slick. The water sheets down carrying soap residue with it. Advantage will not stop soap residue from building completely but will help scurry it down the drain. See Frequently Asked Questions below to put Advantage to work in your toilet!

Green clean Bathroom mirrors by using our Benya. Benya removes films and will not streak windows or mirrors. You will love how your mirrors stay free of steam when they are Benya clean. Benya is so environmentally safe that it is one of few products safe to use on granite and marble surfaces.

Remove Mold and Mildew: To reduce mold and mildew buildup problems in your bathroom, take a shorter, cooler shower. Keep a window or door cracked open if possible.

  • Remove mold on walls and ceilings by spraying them with CleanEz in a dilution of 5 parts water to 1 part CleanEz. Alternately use full strength food grade distilled white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide.
  • Spray the mold, wait 15 minutes and spray once more. Then wait an hour, if the mold is not diminishing you may need to spray a third time or perhaps find a stronger solution that the 3% found in grocery or drug stores. Some health food stores a 20% peroxide. It will be more expensive but you only need 1 cup per quart of water, which should treat the entire area.

  • Moldy shower and tub caulking: Mold does develop behind caulking in the shower. Remove the caulking then clean the surface thoroughly with CleanEz. Spray a second time with the CleanEz an hour later. Allow to dry and apply new caulking.

Clogged Drains:

Here is a fast and environmentally friendly way to prevent clogged drains. Pour one-half cup of Natures Miracle, found in pet stores, down the drains once a month. Nature’s Miracle is an enzyme and product that is 100% green and safe for city sewer systems, septic systems, holding tanks and the environment. It does an excellent job removing pet and food stains and odors from furniture, carpet and clothing. Safely with no toxic after affects. The enzymes literally “eat” any bacteria found in your drains preventing the clogs.
Vacation time:

When you leave home for any amount of time, pour one cup of distilled white vinegar into your toilets. Then place a piece of saran wrap over the bowl - not the seat that lifts but the bowl itself. This prevents the water from evaporating and hard water marks from forming. Be sure to put a note on your toilet to remove the saran wrap when you return home :-).
Hair spray:

Remove hair spray buildup from mirrors and counter tops with straight rubbing alcohol. Coat both surfaces with Advantage to make this job faster and easier. Do not use Advantage on arble or granite surfaces. It is safe for Corian protecting it against stains.
Enamel fixtures: Most enamel fixtures will come back to life if rubbed with a freshly cut lemon. A paste of borax and lemon makes an excellent cleaner for enamel or brushed steel fixtures. Do not use on brass or gold plated faucets.
